Siblings, Annie and George Liddle will be launching Local Live, a gig series aimed at showcasing undiscovered local talent and championing grassroot music venues. Part of the proceeds will raise funds for Music Minds Matter, a charity committed to providing mental health support to those in the music industry. Together, they wish to raise awareness of this vital organisation and the resources they provide.

The initiative was sparked after Annie and George attended Resonate Music Conference where Music Minds Matter discussed the current pressures on emerging artists and grassroot venues.

From here, they were inspired to create a community for artists and individuals who are passionate about uplifting the local music scene: “The concept of ‘Local Live’ is an attempt at bringing people together to share a passion, talent and community for music in Scotland!” (George)

Being musicians themselves, they appreciate the difficulties for new people starting out. In doing so, they aim for Local Live to help artists feel supported at gigs whilst providing a platform to get their music heard: “We really hope this can be the start of even a little local movement encouraging people to check out their local music scene more, and encouraging artists to collaborate and work together on pulling each other up in the industry.” (Annie)

“The concept of ‘Local Live’ is an attempt at bringing people together to share a passion, talent and community for music in Scotland!”

The first Local Live event will take place on 26th April at The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh (doors at 7.30pm).

They will be joined by three acts: Pink Cloud Cloud Season, The Urban and Ben Lauder, all in which they have met along the way: “We met Pink Cloud Season doing a support gig and have since had the pleasure of playing with them again and they are always one to watch! We met The Urban at a joint gig at Sneaky Pete’s. They were super friendly and we loved their punk sound! We met Ben Lauder at a music event and after hearing the wizardry he can do in the production and writing space, we had to have him on our roster for this first event!” (George)

George and Annie will also be performing with their band, Annie and the Jays alongside members,  Roddy, Ben and Ryan. Both siblings share a love for music through the decades, from their dad’s influence of the 70s, to their mum of the 80s, to the contemporary pop sounds of their own generation: “I’m probably the most pop and lyric-focused of the group as the main songwriter, but I think we all bring a little element of different genres and blend them into our sound so it’s pop with a vintage edge.” (Annie)

It’s shaping up to be an incredible night of live music—and if that’s not enticing enough, there may even be a special announcement on the night!

We’re wishing Annie & George all the best as they launch their first event, with hopes for many more to come. As Annie puts it: “In a nutshell, we want to promote the community, put on a great show, and support a charity we love!”
