Monorail Music

Opening in 2002 in a former Mexican restaurant, is Monorail Music, described as a ‘independent, focused and friendly’ business. To enter, customers must walk through a quaint little vegan café bar called Mono who they collaborate on events with.

 

Monorail Music decided to take a community-based approach, to provide a more personal touch, making people feel welcome.

 

Their website states, they additionally  wanted people they respected in the music community, ‘to feel that it was their shop too.’ As a result, they have created close connections with Optimo, Chemikal Underground, Teenage Fanclub, Belle & Sebastian, Mogwai and many others.

Providing a variety of different genres and records in store, they also are active online.  It focuses on new releases and reissues as well as music they are connected to.

 

Sections customers can browse from include, pre orders, in demand restocks, Monorail Exclusives, Monorail merchandise as well as countless genres. Users can create an online account in order to join the mailing list to hear about the latest news and music releases.

 

The store also holds a monthly movie screening as part of the Monorail Film Club, in collaboration with the Glasgow Film Theatre, and will be taking part in Record Store Day later in the year.

 

As a result, to the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, Monorail music have closed their store due to COVID-19. Although shipping is also on hold, customers can still support the independent store by pre-ordering any music item on their website and joining the mailing list.
