Niamh Morris, a 19-year-old singer/songwriter from Bellshill is set to release her debut EP, Strawberries & Honey next month. This follows the launch of her recent single, ‘Weirdo Like Me’.

Niamh revealed, it is one of the most honest songs she has ever written: “It's a piano ballad with a simple structure. I think this gives the song a certain emotion and depth, hopefully conveying to the listener the powerful message behind it.”

The heartfelt ballad features Niamh’s angelic voice and recently caught the attention of Jim’s New Music Breakfast Show. ‘Weirdo Like Me’ is the second single from the upcoming EP which is set to drop on the 21st February: “It's been such a fun, new, exciting experience for me and I honestly can't wait for it to come out!”

From an early age, Niamh has had a passion for music which flourished by learning the classical piano. During lockdown, she then found the motivation to grow her musical talents. “I started learning the guitar, which I discovered I loved! A few years ago, I got really into songwriting and playing live shows, and have been hooked ever since!”

Niamh often explores acoustic pop, but also experiments with a range of styles to create playful songs to emotional ballads: “I like having variation in my music as I'm not restricting myself in any way when it comes to writing.”

“It's been such a fun, new, exciting experience for me and I honestly can't wait for it to come out!”

In doing so, she takes her inspiration from Lizzy McAlpine: “I think she is a phenomenal songwriter and storyteller. Her new album has given me so much inspiration in terms of what type of artist I aspire to be.” You can listen to Niamh’s cover of  ‘Soccer Practice’ by Lizzy McAlpine on TikTok.

As with her musical style, Niamh’s writing sessions are always varied: “Sometimes I write a song in 20 minutes, sometimes it takes 2 weeks to complete a song fully.” During the recording process, Niamh relishes the opportunity to get creative with exciting ideas: “One of my songs 'Differently' features a glockenspiel in it. This is something that came to me in the studio and I've absolutely loved adding in little things like that ever since.”

Niamh is thrilled to have performed across iconic venues such as The Cavern Club as well as those closer to home including King Tuts and SWG3 Galvanizers (Glasgow). SWG3 was a particularly memorable evening, playing support for The Silencers: “I played to over 1000 people there, meaning it was by far the biggest crowd I've ever played to. It was the best night ever!”

More excitingly, Niamh will be returning to SWG3 to perform her EP launch show on the 28th February. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster and TicketWeb and will take place within SWG3’s Poetry Club.

We wish Niamh the best of luck - we can’t wait to hear it!
